Junior / Intermediate Desktop Engineer

About the opportunity:

Our client has over 30 years in the IT industry and is looking to add a Systems Engineer to their tightknit team in Epsom, Auckland. Role description:

You will be responsible for providing the ongoing technical support of both hardware and software applications at multiple sites for one of New Zealand’s top Managed Service Providers. This role has a strong focus on the Microsoft Windows platform. A big part of the role involves interacting with a wide range of customers on a daily basis. This position is office-based and has a requirement to visit client sites regularly.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for first level troubleshooting on both Windows platforms and macOS
  • Provide assistance to customers for onboarding/offboarding queries including provision or de-provisioning of cloud identities
  • Alert monitoring of various products and escalating to senior engineers when needed
  • Provide basic end-user training on both Windows and macOS platforms including productivity applications such as Microsoft Office
  • Work with the wider engineering team to assist them with deployments including imaging of new and existing machines

Things they are looking for: 

  • Familiar understanding of Windows, macOS and Cloud-Based platforms such as Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace
  • An understanding of printer technologies along with basic troubleshooting
  • Understanding of the fundamentals for endpoint security on all platforms
  • Basic understanding of computer networking concepts and troubleshooting
  • Someone with a passion to learn about new technologies that come to market and isn’t afraid to ask questions
  • Someone with excellent communication skills - both written and verbal

This role will suit someone with the following background / experience / qualities: 

  • Qualification in a relevant field
  • Proven work experience, especially in the customer service industry
  • Valid New Zealand drivers license is a must
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to create technical documentation for internal use and end-user documentation
  • Ability to effectively diagnose and troubleshoot technology issues
  • Right to work and live in New Zealand
